I suggest decorating your porch with several clusters of plants and foliage. Place plants of different heights and quantities on your porch to soften the look of a stark entryway. And who doesn’t want more greenery around?

To improve your curb appeal quickly, paint the front door. This is an easy way to spruce things up. And you can always change the color again when you want a change.

If your porch is very small and you don’t want to over-clutter it with potted plants, consider installing a vertical garden. That way you can still benefit from beautiful greenery, but save a lot of space.

Consider adding a water feature to your front yard.  It’s a great way to increase your home’s curb appeal dramatically. I especially love the modern feel in this example.

Another way to grow plants in a small space is with hanging planters. These DIY hanging planters from are just lovely, and they don’t take very long to make. So whip out a few of these and start hanging them up!

New house numbers are a great way to increase curb appeal. Install numbers that fit with the style of your home to give your home a stylish identity.

Pressure wash your front entry way to keep your home glistening. Cleaning is a very cheap way to increase your home’s curb appeal, and it’s also probably the most effective. It may not be very glamorous, but it’s definitely worth a try!

For a unique idea, paint a runner on concrete steps. If your concrete is old and gross, this is a great way to inexpensively improve the overall look of your home. And I personally love the stripe details!

More Curb Appeal Projects to Try

Add walkway lighting to improve your home’s first impression. No one cares about a house that’s dimly lit! Show off the beauty of your home by highlighting it with walkway lights. There are even lots of solar powered options.

Update your front porch by stenciling the concrete in a beautiful pattern. The pattern adds a lot of interest and texture. What a great way to increase curb appeal!

Add a pathway to your front yard and increase your curb appeal. I love this example from Better Homes & Gardens–the paths are so organic amongst the flower beds. You could use pavers to make your walkways, or even just gravel.

Though it may not be the right addition to every yard, adding a fence to the front of your home can be a nice way to define the space against the street. I really love this example of a fence. It is simple enough that it doesn’t feel like a fortress.

For a quick update to your home, replace some of the hardware, such as railings and door knockers. Old and dated hardware can really bring the look of a house down. Simply replacing–or even painting–old hardware will give your home a fresh feel.

Projects That Take A Little More Time {But are Totally Worth It!}

If your house seems like it lacks texture, you could definitely increase its curb appeal by adding some stone or brick to the façade. It may take a bit more time than a weekend, but contrasting the color of your home with a natural stone is totally worth the time.

If your home has lots of windows you may want to consider adding shutters to the outside of your home. Shutters are a great way to add color to your home’s exterior, and a layer of interest.

When enhancing your home’s curb appeal, don’t forget about the mailbox! Mailboxes are opportunities to express some personality. You could plant a garden around your mailbox or simply brighten it up with a fresh coat of paint. This is one of my favorite DIY curb appeal projects!

  1. It’s crazy the difference a pressure washer makes! It can make a home seem like brand new, and instantly adds curb appeal. I’ll have to invest in one of my own, thanks for showing such an impressive before and after 🙂

  2. Mailboxes and flowers. Flowers tend to attract bees, and having bees around the mailbox isn’t the best thing for a mailman. I prefer to have flowers that attract bees in the back yard and to use colorful foliage type plants near the mailbox.
