If you’ve been pondering adding a patio to your yard, here are some DIY patio ideas to get you thinking! And fortunately, we’ve done all of the research and narrowed down some of the pros and cons of them all!
Patios are the perfect hangout location for the summertime. I know that my family and I eat out on the patio as much as possible before the winter months set in. There’s something about eating outdoors that is just good for the soul. However, this year we will need to redo the flooring of our patio, and deciding what we are going to use has been kind of tricky.
{Easy} DIY Patio Options
Composite
Pros- No resealing needed and it’s durable. Cons- You can’t refinish composite and if you live somewhere that gets really hot, you could be facing warping or staining.
Stamped Concrete
Pros- It’s less expensive than natural stone but you don’t lose any of the beauty of natural stone. Cons-It’s not as durable as natural stone is.
Wood Tiles
Pros-Super easy to install! (My 10-year-old cousins figured out how to do it…) Cons-You’ll need to oil the patio every 6-12 months.
Wood
Pro-Durable! And it’s possible to refinish. Cons-Upkeep. If you choose this material, you have to reseal the patio each year. Wood is also susceptible to termites, rotting, and molding.
Old Pallets
Pro- Incredibly cheap, you might be able to scrounge around and get these materials for free! Con-You will have to disassemble all of the pallets for patio assembly. It also requires painting or staining every summer.
Brick
Pros-A lovely, classic look and if you search enough, you may even be able to find the brick for free! Love me some free stuff! Cons-Difficult to install. Brick is also susceptible to salt stains and moss. And, if the patio is in direct sunlight all day, brick can be painfully hot.
Pavers
A timeless look is pavers. So many pattern and color options are available. You can’t go wrong with this look.
Gravel
Gravel is an inexpensive way to go for a patio. It looks great with modern landscape and water wise environments.
Now all you need to decide is which flowering pots are perfect for your patio.
